Patti... the ghetto case build

I was recently approached by a friend of mine, asking me to make a "specs list", since she just got herself a budget for a school/gaming rig. So browsing TPC, I was able to make a list of components that would be great for school, and good enough for gaming(I had the games that she liked playing [Rainbow 6, HAWX, DiRT, and Prototype] in mind while making the list).

Everything costs 18k, and though she only has a 17k budget, adding 1k wouldnt be difficult... but well over her limit. The specs list I made didnt include a monitor, a dvd drive, and a casing. And after reading my worklog on Blackie, she then thought that it would be fun to just construct a case from something that can be found in her room. And that's how "Patti"(the name she chose for this particular build), came into existence.

First off, the goodies we just recently bought...

The mobo... she didnt want anything fancy. And we needed an AM3 mobo that would support.......

... DDR3 Rams. And I was able to find this 4gb set for only 5k. Yeahba!

I was able to find this used Triplex ATI Radeon HD4670 for only 2k.

Since I made a mistake of telling her that an AMD procie has a habit of getting too hot... my loving friend took the liberty of buying a procie cooler without consulting with me. But after reading reviews of the Athlon II X4 620, I think this Deep Cool Ice Blade Pro, is a bit excessive. But hey, it's her rig.

I advised her to buy this HDD 5.25 bay cooler... which I'll turn into a RAM cooler.

Cheap *** keyboard... she just wants something that works. No need to burn pockets for a gaming keyboard.

Cheap *** mouse... the title of this worklog should've been, "Anything That Works gaming rig".

Re: Patti... the ghetto case build

We havent gotten around to buying her procie, and the HDD. It's gonna be an Athlon II X4 620, and a Samsung 500gb hard drive. And the casing, will be built with unused illustration boards scattered in her room.

Of course, knowing me... I'd make sure that it wouldnt look like a "case made of illustration boards", once I'm done with it.

Dont ask why this project is named PATTI... I wouldnt be able to give you an answer that would make sense anyway. What's important is the consultation fee that I deserve for making the specs list, finding her the "cheap but nice" computer components that I could ever find. *ahem*

Building the casing is free of charge... she is after all, one of my closest friends. Hehehe.
